Mr. Mitchell has been involved in Colorado Bioscience industry since he received his Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering in 1988 from Colorado State University.
After graduation Mr. Mitchell was employed by the Solar Energy Research Institute (now NREL) working in basic research in the alcohol fuels branch of that organization.
Then in 1990 he moved to Boulder to take a position at Somatogen Inc. working on recombinant hemoglobin. During his time at Somatogen, Mr. Mitchell worked in process development, process engineering and engineering management. Then in 1998, after Baxter Healthcare acquired Somatogen, Mr. Mitchell stayed with Baxter to work as a project engineer and project manager for numerous projects around the world for Baxter.
In 2005 Mr. Mitchell took on the role of Director of Technical Services at Insmed Inc. which included engineering, facilities, maintenance, calibration, and validation, and helped lead the site to a successful US FDA Pre-Approval Inspection within 14 months of facility start-up. In 2009, Merck & Co., Inc. acquired the site from Insmed Inc. Since then Mr. Mitchell has lead the site as the Merck Manufacturing Division plant manager towards the commercialization of several Biosimilar products.
In addition to this professional bioscience experience, Mr. Mitchell is also a past-president and treasurer for the Rocky Mountain chapter of ISPE (International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineers). In his spare time Mr. Mitchell enjoys skiing, hiking, and traveling with his family.
