The Bioscience Discovery Evaluation Grant Program was created by the Colorado legislature to foster development of the industry in Colorado, supporting both new business development and quality jobs for Coloradans. Grants have been available to develop technologies coming out of Colorado's non-profit, research institutions over the last two years. In 2008, the program continues to support technology transfer at qualified research institutions, but now grants can be made directly to companies developing these new technologies. Strategic funds are also supporting the development of new infrastructure that will support Colorado's growing bioscience industry. Grant cycles are now open for bioscience Proof-of-Concept projects and Early-Stage Company proposals that will advance the commercial potential of promising technologies. The rule and application documents below provide the details. Please contact the CBSA staff if you have any questions about these programs, rules or applications. The CBSA will host several educational sessions to familiarize the industry with the process. Proof Of Concept GrantsThe Proof-of-Concept grants under the Bioscience Discovery Evaluation Grant Program (BDEGP) are intended to support bioscience discoveries that will likely lead to the development of new products, services, businesses and employment in the bioscience industry in Colorado. Grants up to $150,000 will be accessible to Offices of Technology Transfer (OTT) affiliated with qualified Research Institutions in order to enhance the commercial potential of bioscience research projects that focus on life sciences, engineering, material sciences computer sciences, photonics, or nanotechnology. Applications for the first grant cycle must be received by OEDIT on or before November 15, 2008. Proof Of Concept Rules & Application Early-Stage Bioscience Company GrantsThe Early-Stage Bioscience Company grants under the Bioscience Discovery Evaluation Grant Program are intended to spur economic development and help new companies born out of Colorado research institutions to succeed in developing new technologies, business structures, and product development.
